Gait Training Services in Charlestown, Rhode Island
Gait training involves working with someone to improve or restore their ability to walk. This may include learning how to negotiate stairs or using an assistive device like a cane or crutches.
There are many reasons for a person to have difficulty walking. Some of those reasons are joint replacement, sprain or strain, fracture, deconditioning, neurological disorders, and aging. One aspect of gait training is assessing a patient for an assistive device such as a cane, crutches, or walker and fitting that device to that patient. Charlestown Physical Therapy has these items available to patients at no cost. Patients and the local community are welcome to donate and pick up these items when needed. Gait training includes:
- Improving the ability to ascend and descend stairs
- Negotiate stairs
- Improve step length and pattern
- Improve speed and endurance
